Vice President of Internal Affairs at IT Society MMU Cyberjaya

From February 2024 to January 2025 I was Vice President of Internal Affairs at IT Society MMU Cyberjaya. I supervised the Heads and Assistant Heads of Divisions, and I spent much of the year fixing a problem that had followed the society for a long time.

Stopping the yearly website rebuild

Every year, a new committee would rebuild the IT Society website from scratch. That took up time and energy that could have gone into projects that solve real student problems.

I tackled this in two ways:

  • I designed a new web architecture for the IT Society website and the other sites that sit under it.
  • I wrote the Digital Preservation Manifesto, a guide that asks future committees to keep what exists and build on it instead of starting over.

Our advisor later wrote about how this came about in an article on tech sustainability in student organisations. The link is below.

BarCamp Cyberjaya 2024

I organised BarCamp Cyberjaya 2024 as its Event Director (more on that here). Afterwards I wrote the BarCamp Handbook, so future teams have a reference to build on instead of starting from zero.

My first workshop as a speaker

On 29 April 2024 I ran a Git & GitHub workshop for MMU students. It was my first time as the speaker. I shared tips and best practices, and a team of facilitators made sure nobody was left behind. It showed me how much preparation goes into a good workshop and gave me ideas for running the next one better.

Industrial visit to Grab

I also helped organise an industrial visit to Grab Malaysia for IT Society and Hackerspace members. Students got to talk directly with Grab engineers. I hope more visits like this happen, so CS students can learn about the industry beyond the syllabus.
